THE MUSICIAN PEDRO ABRUNHOSA, DOCTOR AND COMEDIAN CARLOS VIDAL, AND ACTOR AND PRESENTER PEDRO GRANGER ARE LIONESA GROUP'S GUESTS FOR THE DEBATE ON ART AND CULTURE FOR HAPPINESS

2023-09-7

"Art and Culture: The Happiness Pill" is the theme of the debate promoted by Lionesa Group, which will take place at Alfândega do Porto on September 14 at 3pm, as part of Europe's largest happiness event, Happiness Camp. Admission is free with prior registration.

Can music help relieve the symptoms of postpartum depression? Can a stand-up comedy show reduce anxiety and stress in hospitalized patients?

Can we prescribe a play or a musical show to treat mental health problems? These are some of the questions that Pedro Abrunhosa will be answering and debating with Pedro Granger and Carlos Vidal on September 14 at 3pm on the Joyful stage of Happiness Camp.

Believing that culture and creativity are the most inclusive and dynamic economic forces in creating vitality and happiness in territories, their populations and future prospects, Lionesa Group will bring to Alfândega do Porto a debate on how Art and Culture can contribute to health and subjective well-being, bringing about a positive transformation in people.

"At a time when mental health is the main cause of productive and psychosocial incapacity in the population, and which costs the European Union 4% of GDP every year, we need to seriously talk about the issue and from a less palliative and more preventive perspective, in order to find other ways of dealing with anxiety, depression or burnout.", emphasise Pedro Pinto, CEO of Lionesa Group.

At the moment, more than 84 million people are affected in Europe and the figures become even more frightening when we realize that Portugal is at the top of the ranking of countries that consume the most psychotropic drugs. However, a new approach at European level is revolutionizing the way mental health is viewed and treated from a more holistic perspective through the use of areas such as Art and Culture as a form of social and cultural prescription.

International reports such as Culture for Health have brought new perspectives on the benefits of art for mental health and are now trying to stimulate a political change in EU countries, bringing health, cultural and social policies closer together. This will be the theme debated among the guests who will bring their own experiences and give their first-person testimonies. The event is open to all and completely free of charge. Registration is available here.
