JOÃO TORDO PRESENTS THE NAME THAT THE CITY FORGOT AT LIVRARIA LELLO

2023-11-21
Livraria Lello will welcome, on November 24th, at 9 pm, the author João Tordo for the presentation of his new book The Name that the City Forgot. The conversation will be mediated by journalist Sandra Sousa.

João Tordo was born in Lisbon, in 1975. He has published several works, including As Três Vidas (2008) and Felicidade (2020), recognized with the José Saramago Prize in 2009 and the Fernando Namora Prize in 2021, respectively.

The Name That the City Forgot follows Natasha, who goes into exile in America, leaving her life and family behind in a former Soviet Union country. In the new country, Natasha meets George B., who offers her a job: reading the New York telephone directory aloud. While the girl learns to bear the longing for her family and her country, forging a new life in the vibrant and raw metropolis, George, for his part, obsessively searches for a name among the millions of names that the city has forgotten; a name that can save you, or be your damnation.

In his new book, João Tordo dissects loneliness, the great disease of our times, confronting his characters and readers with the past with which we all try to reconcile ourselves.

The session is free to attend, subject to prior registration, with capacity limited to the Bookstore's capacity. It will also be possible to watch the event via livestreaming, on Livraria Lello's Facebook page.
